How to Become the Best Lash Artist in Your City

In this industry technique is just as important as service if you want to attract high quality clients, keep your books full of lash appointments, and avoid burnout in the treatment room. After being a lash artist for 10+ years and making more than $100k annually, I still fall back on fundamental rules I've made for myself that help keep my business running smoothly and keep my clients AND myself happy.

Here’s an important rule to keep in mind if you want to have a thriving lash studio where clients are like family and keep returning to you because they are loyal from the professionalism and care you’ve shown them

Be honest.

It sounds so simple and obvious, right? It’s not. Sometimes as lash artists and estheticians we want to never let our clients down. We want to go above and beyond to make clients happy even if that means agreeing to or accepting a situation that we aren’t comfortable with. Quick story example: Early in my career I’ve had clients ask for extensions that their natural lashes damn sure could not support the weight of. Instead of falling back on my expertise and my gut I said to myself, “Just try it and see… maybe the client’s natural lashes will be able to hold them. You’re probably overthinking this and this look is what the client is asking for. Yeah Reagan, you can do that. ”

Absolute failure. Over time I noticed the lashes not being in their best shape which could lead to long term thinner natural lashes for her. SO instead of following my first instinct which would have been to educate the client, offer a alternative, and give her the option to choose, I jumped to immediately trying to please the client and ultimately had to backtrack which probably made me look less experienced and as if I was after money over the wellbeing of her lash health (which was not the case at all).

Clients trust us. That's why they choose us. It’s our responsibility to always be honest and upfront even if it’s not what the client wants at the moment. This will even make the client have more confidence and trust in your expertise and appreciate you being honest with them.
